Priceline
Ripoff charges unauthorized hotel accommodations Charge was removed but reinstated 2 months later!

Traveling & Tourism

Like many others, I was silly enough to go into Priceline's website. I have been successfully shopping on the net and have never had a problem. I was merely browsing. If I found something exceptional I may have purchased from them.

It is reasonable to expect the normal net purchasing procedures to apply. I have never gone into any site that purchases a room without you confirming that you did indeed intend to purchase.

I initiated an unsuccessful search for accommodations. The reply was Sorry we have nothing that meets your requirements. I used my back button to see if I could narrow my choices. My browser froze and I hit refresh. The next thing I know I was charged 424.99 and purchased a hotel room 43 miles away from where I need to be.

I called, wrote and finally disputed with Capital One. The charge was removed. 2 months later, the charge was reinstated. I have since booked another room.

Priceline is a disreputable company but it is the credit card companies that are allowing this conduct. If I had written a check, I would have the right to stop payment with only my authorization. I believe that the credit card companies can be sued for allowing these charges. It is about time someone put a stop to this nonsense.
