Hotels.com
Discount Hotel Prices. NOT Dallas Texas

Traveling & Tourism

An honest mistake exposes the Hotels.com ripoff scheme. I booked a two-night stay in a hotel using Hotels.com. The total charge was $230.78. When I checked out of my hotel, they had accidentally placed the two nights' cost on the credit card I gave at check-in. The hotel reversed the charges and I thought everything was resolved. But when I saw that the price at the hotel was only $183.08 for two nights, I thought there was a mistake. Turns out, no mistake. Hotels.com added a 26% increase to the price for "taxes and services". Just who gets those tax revenues and what the "services" were, I can only wonder.

I became very motivated to report Hotels.com here after calling in to their call center to resolve the discrepancy. After being treated very rudely, placed on hold several times for what amounted to over 50 minutes, interrupted during what little conversation there was, being told there would be no refund, and then being hung up on after asking the customer assistant "Mary" her last name, it was time to exercise the power of the pen (or keyboard as it were).

Bottom line: Hotels.com is no discount hotel booking service. It's a cost-added ripoff run by semi-articulate boors.
