Bait and switch ripoff with deceptive star rating practices and standards

Traveling & Tourism

As of today, I received a message that Priceline will not refund or change reservations based on misleading star ratings. For three years, my company has used PriceLine for its business travel for consultants with wonderful results. Recently, I booked travel for a special occassion and requested a four-star hotel. I received "Congratulations, you got your 4-Star hotel at the price you requested." I quickly looked at the hotel and knew from past experience that the Palmer House in Chicago is not a four star Hilton Property.

After several phone calls to Priceline, I was told by a representative that if I found two travel companies that advertised that the hotel was not a four star hotel, Priceline would refund the money. I found four on-line services: Orbitz, Travelocity, NexTag, and Expedia that rate the Palmer House as a 3-Star/Diamond hotel. I called back to PRiceline with that information and the representative said they would look into it. I got a response that the hotel is a 4-Star by Priceline's rating. I called the hotel which said, "we're not a four star property".

After a week of calling, writing, etc. I'm being told by Priceline that their website indicates that Priceline determines its rating factor. But, on the same page it states that a four star hotel starts at $169.; however, the hotel says its rooms cost$159 and the other websites are pricing the hotel at the same cost of $159. Priceline own site contradicts what it says a four star costs, so that further demonstrates that they gave me less than a 4-Star.
