Expedia makes a mistake and makes you pay

I made a hotel reservation in the car while traveling to New England. We finally found a room available on Expedia and booked it. We showed up at the hotel at 8pm, only to be told that they had no rooms. They said they had contacted Expedia hours before and they had a stack of reservations from Expedia for which they had no rooms and the people had not shown up yet. The woman at the registration desk handed me the reservation form and said to call Expedia. I immediately called Expedia, but was not able to reach customer service, so we found another room on our own at another hotel.in the morning, I checked my phone the following morning and found an email and call from Expedia from 11 PM (!), 3 hours after being turned away at the hotel, saying the hotel did not have a room and to call them to find a new hotel. I called and was on the phone for over45 minutes, and was even on hold so the guy could call the hotel to verify that I had shown up and there were no rooms! Then, he had the nerve to say that the hotel said they had no record of me showing up or having a reservation! I reminded him that I had not only an email from Expedia and voice message stating that the hotel had no rooms, but I had the print out from the hotel with our reservation. He then put me on hold again because of "technical" problems with refunding the full amount. So, not only did we have the stress of no hotel room available, I was then put through the ringer by Expedia customer service, and spent over 45 minutes on the phone proving they made a mistake, even though I had proof that they had. Never once was there a "sorry for your inconvenience." I will most likely never use Expedia again.
