I wish I could give this ship a no-star rating. Carnival should take bulldozers and sledge hammers to this antiquated catastrophe and never let it see the light of day.
I took my son on vacation with me before he returned to college - from the moment we entered our cabin (M23) there was the smell of raw sewage (whether it was coming from the shower. Toilet or both is unknown). We went to Guest Services and got told "theres nothing we can do about it"
The first day at sea all of the toilets were out of order on the ship for several hours. We went to Guest Services and were told "we're aware of the plumbing problem in your room and are working to fix it" leaving us to think it was only our room or just our floor - after several hours I went back to Guest Services to inquire of a public restroom on another floor - it was only then did he acknowledge the truth, that the toilets were out on the whole ship.
We got delayed in Nassau due to mechanical problems with the ship.
There is improper ventilation in smoking areas, and the vast majority of fun at sea events happen near the casino and bar where there is smoking everywhere.By the way somebody tell Carnival that a non-smoking slot machine next to a smoking slot machine is an oxymoron... Sitting next to a chain smoker at a smoking slot... I digress
During at sea days, most of the quiet non-smoking areas on the ship are either closed or being used for private events. So when I went to the library for peace and quiet because I couldnt enjoy my stateroom, it was being setup for a private event. When you go to the Serenity Area that is supposed to be adults only - there are single parents and late stage baby boomers with kids in the whirlpools and the staff does nothing to enforce it. You go to the sun deck to relax and there are walking smokers up there with the staff doing nothing to enforce its non-smoking regulations. Now if you're wondering why I didnt just go to my own cabin for R&R... Because in there I'm courted to the stench of raw sewage seeping in from the pipes and there is "nothing we can do about it".
I'm not new to cruising or Carnival (I've been on over 25 cruises, several cruise lines) - so I know to expect lots of families and kids everywhere when boarding a Carnival ship. But I dont expect my cabin to be unbearable and stink.
Even after writing customer services, they offered no more than a canned excuse and "sorry it was bad, try us again and hope its better"
I will definitely never cruise on the Fascination again - it belongs in a ship scrap yard.
