Telephone gives up under a yea

I bought an alcatel landline corded telephone about a year ago. Two days ago, the phone stopped working and i cant find the receipt. I know my line works because you hear it rig when you try calling but at home, there is no dial tone or ringing. What could be wrong and where could i send it for repairs?
