Can NOT call land line numbers

I have had problems with my MagicJack device since the first time I tried to use it. MagicJack promotes itself as a Telephone service that can be plugged into any computer and can call any number in the united states and canada. They are heavily promoted on TV as well.

I can say that when I try to call a cell phone number, the MagicJack device works fine. I have had ongoing problems though if I try to call a landline based number.initially, it would work intermittently. I would dial a land line number and it would ring and ring. If I called the person's cell phone number and ask why they didn't answer their landline, they would tell me that it never rang. I could call cell phone to cell phone, then dial their landline with my MagicJack. I could tell them, "okay, its ringing now." and they would tell me that their phone never rang once. Bottom line, sometimes it would work, sometimes it didn't.

I have spent several hours talking to their technical support. They have been unable to resolve this issue.

2 weeks ago, a new problem developed. Whenever I tried calling a landline #, I would get 3 beeps like busy signals, and then the line would go dead. That happened without fail to EVERY landline # I tried calling. Once again, back to their online technical support. I wasted another couple of hours before they finally told me that "Engineers were updating their system", and they couldn't pull up my account information. I spent another 2 hours again today online with their support. This time, the agent (one of the Top 10% Agents) finally told me that a "Select Few users were having problems. I don't care if 99% of the people have great luck - I paid for my service and unit just like the 99% did, I want to get good service in return. The agent could not tell me what the problem was, how long the problem would last, or if there were any chance the problem could be fixed. And he also refused to refund my service fee or reimburse me for the cost of the unit itself. "Not company policy" I was told.

I bought the magic jack to call numbers that would cost me to call with my cell phone. It does not do that.

Save your money and look at other internet phone alternatives.
