Ripoff, sleezie, get contract at any price

About 5 or 6 years ago I agreed to sign for a wireless phone for my nephew. He sometimes let the bill get out of hand and verizon would call me and I would place a call to him and he would make restitution. The term contract was coming to an end and I was glad for this but unknown to me my nephew contacted verizon and changed the service. He subsequently did not pay the bill and verizon let me know.

Here is the suprise, I was told that a new contract was made and the I not only had to pay his bill but I had to pay an early out of $300.00. I protested this amount as I never gave my permission for this service change and refused to pay the early out but stated I would in fact pay my nephews bill. Non the less they stated it was my responsiblity.

My nephew never signed any agreement with verizon. This was just now put on my credit file. When I called verizon I was told that even if I paid this bill they would show a zero balance but that it would remain on my credit report as a negative. What incentive do I have to pay a $300.00 early out/plus the bill if it remains a determent to my credit when in fact I never owned this wireless service.
