In Novemember of 2003 my bridesmaids and I went into the Kaufmann's wedding world in Allentown (Whitehall), Pennsylvania to pick out dresses for my July 31 wedding. We found a perfect dress and ordered them.

I returned home to Lancaster, and had my two bridesmaids here go to the Kaufmann's store in Lancaster to get fitted. The associate who helped us said she was nervous because the owner was in the store. Due to her nerves, she never faxed the information to the Allentown store.in the middle of February, I received a phone call from the Allentown store stating that the dresses needed to be ordered soon so they could be in for the 6/4/04 wear date.

I got on the phone with Lancaster's store and they faxed the information directly. Needless to say, it is five weeks prior to my wedding, and NO dresses. I went over to the store today, for a fitting on my dress, and waited behind a bride who is getting married in two weeks, who (are you suprised?), no bridesmaid dresses. She was forced to choose six dresses off the rack for her girls. Same color, but different styles. The sales clerk had gotten so angry at this girl's fiance, she through a headpiece at him. I am told my dresses were ordered, but had a delivery date of 6/4/05, one year too late. I am told "They will be here prior to your wedding".

I also ordered my dress from Kaufmann's July. It arrived on time, however, the way their seamstress wants to hem it ruins the dress completely. I have a letter in writing from Mrs. Kaufmann, stating that If I am not satisfied with the alterations, I will be refunded. Needless to say, I have purchased another dress at a different store and will be getting refunded.

When my headpiece arrived, it was wrong. I demanded it be fixed within 3 days and it was. However, they wanted me to pay an additional $135.00 because that is the amount I was undercharged for the headpiece. I said absolutely not. Then they told me I needed to pay to have the veil sewn to a comb. I did not pay for that because when I ordered it, that is what I was paying for.

My mom also ordered her dress from Kaufmann's in a size 12. It arrived three days later, a size 8. That is all they had in stock. They would not allow her to exchange it for a different dress. She had to have the dress let out, which they would not pay for.

My fiance's mom also ordered her dress through Kaufmann's. The tag inside the dress was a 12, the outside tag said 10... She was unable to zip the dress up. The clerk measured her wrong, the dress is 8 inches too small in her chest. Fortunately, they allowed her to exchange it for a different dress, only after we told them we have been in contact with our lawyers.

Every single thing has gone wrong with my wedding order. I have been dealing with two of the stores, Allentown and Lancaster. The Allentown store does not have a manager and the managers in Lancaster are extremely rude. I have been in contact with Margaret Kaufmann and her son Ira Kaufmann. I never get a straight answer from either one of them. I had contacted Mrs. Kaufmann three times in the past week and she never called me back. My fiance's mom finally contacted her this morning and let her know that we contacted a lawyer. Mrs. Kaufmann actually hung up on my fiance's mother. We called her back and she claimed she did not hang up and that I never left her any messages. She's been "having problems with her cell phone". Yeah right...

One of my bridesmaids is in another wedding one week before mine, they ordered dresses through Kaufmann's and yup, they are still not in. Also when I was at the store today, there was a groom there who is getting married tomorrow, and his tuxes are not there.

I do not understand how a place like this is still in business. I am told through a representative of the company my dresses are from that Kaufmann's does not pay them, therefore they hold gowns. I have a feeling that is what is happening with mine.

This so called business needs to be boycotted. I also feel a fraud and money laundering investigation needs to be completed. If you are a future bride or prom goer, shop where you want, but take my warning and all the other warnings on this website seriously. Weddings are stressful enough without having to worry that your bridesmaids, or you, won't have a gown.
