Generator Repair Quoted at $700, Local Shop Fixed for $100

I took a portable generator to this Home Depot to have it repaired. They do not do the repairs in the store. They have a subcontractor from Hicksville, NC come in, pick up the items and take them out of state for repair.

After 2 weeks I got a call from Home Depot telling me the motor was shot and it would cost $700 to replace it. I had to pay $35 to hear this.

So I got it home and took it to a local repair shop, and they got it running. Their report to me was that they had to completely disassemble it because the previous repairers had put it back together so tight that it would have exploded had they gotten it started. The valves were very tight, the pull start could not be pulled because it was so tight, etc.

I suppose they put it back together thinking I was just going to roll over and buy a new motor. My guy got it apart, put it back together and got it running for $100. Home Depot owes me the $35 I paid for the North Carolina subcontractor to botch the job.
