Swimming in our units then left to deal with the mold

"When are we getting a new roof so our unit's stop leaking?" Reply: "when you hand me a $7000 cheque". Yup, that's the response we get when we ask this of our apartment rental company. We have been stonewalled at every corner for help, obviously the company doesn't care or it would have been done, tribunal says nothing, city hall and health unit do nothing, putting article after article in local paper raises minimal awarness. I wish I could say we are being left high and dry but the reality is we are drowning in our own units from water damage and mold. For those of us who have children it is a real challenge, they say they can move us to another unit but also charge us more rent in the move. Why should we pay more rent when the reason for the move is neglect? People say "why dont you just move?" My reply is that when your just getting by on a small income its not that easy just to up and move to a place that costs more (believe me we've been looking), and why should I be forced from my home because one company's inflicted neglect? We are a building of 18 units and all but maybe 5 are not touched in some way from leaks, waterdamage or mold.in total there are 8 buildings in my area owned by this company and heaven only knows how many more units are like the units in my building. How can this company keep operating?

Back in April a grown man had fallen from one of the top (3rd story) balcony trying to retrieve a ball for a child, the city had all the balconies condemned and for work to start on them immeadiatly. We later found out that the company was aware of the balconies faults the year before. Well I can assure you that at least 30 balconies are left and its been over a year now, mine being one of them. What I don't understand is why did it take a man falling from above to get things rolling? Why that little tidbit of info when I'm writting about mold? Well, because for those of us without a balcony still are also getting mold/drafts and not to mention squirrels festering in the very spot our balconies were, why is it taking so long? Rumor has it that the comany is having trouble paying for the work to be done. Why? We all pay our rent or we wouldn't be living here. So where is all our rent money going? It's obvioulsy not putting a roof on our building, or cleaning up the mold in our units or even replacing the mold infused carpets we all now have. I believe they should add "Aromatic mold"and "lakeview during rainy season" to their building description since nothing is being done about it, and while they're updating that info maybe they should add "balcony. If your lucky".
