Hollister Management / CEO

Subject; Crime Committed In Hollister

To whom it may concern, I’m typing this letter in hopes that we can come to a resolution to the matter I’m about to discuss.

On May 31, at 1:30pm, my wife was shopping in your West Covina Store #30256. As she was trying on some clothing in your dressing rooms, she noticed four quick flashes that came from underneath the curtain from her dressing room. She looked down and saw the suspects shoes (Black Converse Tennis Shoes) She quickly got dressed and brought this to the attention of the Store Manager Jose Manago in hopes that he could contact Mall Security and/or resolves this crime that had just been committed in Hollister. During the course that my wife was giving a description to the Store Manager the suspect stepped out of the dressing room and she made sure to let him know that those were the same shoes she had seen on the dressing room next to her where the flashes came from, at the same time we scanned the store for any other individual wearing the same type of shoes but there wasn’t anyone else wearing black converse at that time.

According to one of your Cashiers, who was standing right across from the dressing room and was the first person we approached and asked for the manager on site; she mentioned to us and the manager that this guy had been acting suspicious for a while and she had been keeping an eye on him because she believed he was planning on stealing merchandise because he kept on going back and forth to the dressing rooms, and after we mention the violation of privacy my wife had experienced, she mentioned that could’ve been the reason why he kept on going in and out of there, unfortunately that was the time when we heard the answer I never expected to hear, specially from an employee of such a big corporation as Hollister, that just proved to me that my wife’s privacy and every other person entering your dressing rooms are at stake and there is really no one there properly trained to be able to handle a situation of this magnitude. Jose (manager) reacted on a way that made us feel as if our business and values as human beings were worthless to Hollister, I don’t know if he realized the damage that he was causing to my wife and the company that he works for, it’s disappointing to know that the manager doesn’t see himself as the face of Hollister. His attitude towards this matter was so poor and unprofessional; since the suspect was still at the store at the time we were explaining the incident to the store manager. I would give you the cashiers name but she was under Jose’s login ringing up customers. Login#0101187377

This Store Manager directed my wife to mall security, after the fact that she had been violated in your store. Jose (store manager) basically seemed to be more in tuned with the suspects pacing back and forth and walked away during our conversation to keep a closer look at them and seem careless about the situation that was brought to his attention, but before he walked away from us all he had to say was, “unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about this”. My wife felt embarrassed, harassed and was completely nervous about the situation. Your Manager had an opportunity to isolate this matter and he made a poor decision from his part.

Hollister did not protect a customer’s privacy nor did they assist in the capture of the suspect. If this would have happened to one of your associates, sister, wife, daughter or mother; would you have handled the situation differently?

I have one question for Hollister Co rporation, How is my wife and myself suppose to react if these photos end up being exposed?

I really hope you have an answer for us because we don’t have one.
• I want to know how Hollister is going to react to this issue that is being brought forward.
• What Hollister is going to do going forward to protect customers privacy rights.
• What measures are being taken to install well protected dressing rooms with associates monitoring round the clock during open hours.

• Training for your staff to prevent such incident from happening again to any customer.
• Discipline / Terminate Manager for not handling situation properly.
• Formal apology to my wife
How is it that if someone steals an item in store; associates and/or managers are able to contact security during the crime being committed but something of this magnitude happens which is also considered a crime here in California they just look the other way and no one knows what to do….
I am reaching out via email to maintain a record of this conversation should you decide to do nothing about this matter. Furthermore, I gave your company an opportunity to contact me by leaving my information behind to one of your Assistant Store Manager’s Daniel. It’s been well over a week and no response from your Hollister.

Look forward to your prompt response to this matter,

Gustavo and Cindy Maciel
