Mary, the owner insulted, descriminated, were extremely rude, used profanities, threatened physical violence against us

This evening my wife and I entered wine & spirit shoppe located on 1202 rockland street, Reading PA 19604, tel: 610-921-4227. We picked up a six pack of beer and were getting ready to pay. My wife took out a ten dollar bill, and she was asked to show id. She showed her New York State id, then one of the employees scanned the id on the machine and the female employee said she cannot accept it and gave it back to my wife. My wife asked why, and the employee answered in a rude tone that the machine shows she was over eight hundred years old, my wife asked how it's possible and the woman ignored her. My wife asked the employee if she read the id at all, and pointed out that she is well over the age limit to purchese alcohol, the employee said that if it doesn't scan we cannot purchase any alcohol.

I then gave the employee my New York State id, and the machine did not accept it either because it scanned me at over one thousand years old. Years old, the store would receive a fine. The employee proceeded to charge me for the beer, and refused to accept payment from my wife because her id did not scan correctly. I asked why it's ok for me to pay, and not for my wife, we both have valid ids and we are both way over the age limit. The female employee said that my wife looks to young to purchase beer, and that I look old enough to purchase beer, so I would have to buy it. The employee also stated that if the police were to see my wife purchasing beer and the machine scanned her age at over eight hundred My wife took $10 from her wallet and handed it to the cashier. The cashier refused to take it from her and said that she must hand it to me so I can pay for it.

The price was $10.50, so I took out some change from my pocket and my wife picked out $. 50 to give to the cashier. The cashier refused and said she must give it to me so I can pay. I gave them the money, they did not give me a receipt, and we walked out of the premises. While we walked to the place we were staying, we were discussed the fact that if they refused to serve my wife then they should have refused to serve me as well since in their eyes I do not have proper id o purchase liqor, and that my wife was discriminated against because of the age she looked, not because of her actual age. I went back to the store and asked for a refund because I felt that their business principles are unjust since they refused to take my wife's id, they should have refused too take my id for the same reason instead of accepting the money.

The same female employee refused to give us a refund because we walked out of the store already. I asked why, since they did not have propper id for me, they should have not sold it to me in the first place and not descriminate against my wife. The employee continued to be rude, and called the store owner "Mary". I spoke to Mary on the phone and explained the situation, and she said that I was to leave the store immediately and she would be there in five minutes, at which point my wife entered the store to find out why it's taking so long for me to return the beer. Mary was extremely rude and said it's her store policy, and I said her it's a stupid policy since I was just there and there's no reason why the beer should not be taken back and a refund to be issued. I explained to Mary on the phone that I will not leave and I will wait for her to discuss this further. She arrived with some people following her, and asked my wife ans I to step into the back of the store.

She asked what the problem was with an attitude, and my wife and I both gave her our licenses and print outs from the scanner so that she can see how rediculous the situation is. All we wanted was a refund. She refused to give us a refund, and said we have to take the beer and go, and that she didn't appreciate me calling her or her employees stupid. I told her I did not call anybody stupid, I called her policy stupid. She said that the state makes the policy of the ids, and that the employees should not have served me, and they served me only because I looked old enough to purchase the beer. I said " since it is against your policy to sell any liquor to anybody whose id does not scan, and you agree with this policy, can I get my refund?" She refused and became even more rude and disorderly and said it would take two weeks to get a refund from the manufacturer, and she would take down our name and addres and mail the refund to us once she received her refund.

I said it's rediculous, and I would like my refund now, not in two weeks, and that they should follow their own store policy in that case. She became more agitated and agressive, and said that we are not getting aany refund, she doesn't care what the license said, and she continued to accuse me of clling her employees and herself stupid, at which point she asked her employee if I called her stupid, the employee replied that I did not. We explained to Mary that her policy descriminated against out of state liquor customers, which is fine, but her employee did not have to be so extremely rude and unpleasant about it, and if we feel that we our business is so unwelcome at her establishment based on her policy, we should not have been served, and we are entitled to a refuns. She disagreed and became even more agitated, so my wife took the six pack and we proceeded to exit the store.

I told her what she was doing was unfair and we will never come back inside again, at which point she began to use profanities such as "I don't give a f*ck, get the f*uck out of my store!" The people she walked in with approached me and my wife in an agresssive manner as to start a physical confrontation, and Mary kept cursing. I said that I have never in my life walked into any place of business where anyone uses profanities against a customer, and it was a discusting action on hr part. Mary kept screaming that we better leave, and the people started to get too close for comfort, and one of them pushed my wife on the shoulder. She asked who did it, and Mary said nobody, and my wife said "Oh, it was my imagintion!" while Mary laughed a little bit. We were being threatened with physical violence, so we exited the store and were followed by the same people.

Mary kept yelling profanities at us as we walked out, such as "You ain't sh*t, nobody gives a f*ck about you, get the f*ck out!" and another woman who approached us and asked what the problem was, which we tried to explain, and Mary yelled to her that she already spoke to us and we needed to be thrown out. We kept walking away, very upset and disappointed. If in fact my wife looks too young to purchase beer, and a police officer sees her giving me money to purchase the beer, wold that not be considered a crime? And if in fact her store policy stated that if somebody carried an id that cannot be scanned would not be served liquor, why is it that I was able to purchase it because I look older? If my id is as unacceptable as my wife's, should we not be held to the same standards?
