Don't Stand Behind Appliances, Hidden 15% restocking fee!

The washing machine I purchased on line didn't work. On-line customer service requires going through the manager at the local store. The local store manager required me to run a bunch of tests on the machine that required over 4 hours of time to complete. The manager insisted there is a 15% restocking fee on all "special order" items. There is no notification of the restocking fee on HomeDepo.com; I went back and checked.

The manager wanted me to jack around with getting the Maytag repair guy to come out and see if the machine is operating as designed. But even if it isn't, they still will charge the 15% restocking fee. Home Depot gave me the wrong number twice for the Maytag repair number and I spent over 45 mins on the phone to get these wrong numbers.

I just want a washer that works. Home Depot doesn't stand behind the appliances they sell. Home Depot wants to give me a 3 weekend project of having repair guys come out to be able to eventually have Maytag take it back. Who has time for all that? I'm paying the restocking fee of almost $200 and buying a new washer somewhere else.

I manager guy at Home Depot was rock headed throughout the discussion making this all the more painful. I really tried to come up with something that would work for them and me.
"How 'bout you waive the 15% restocking fee on the washer I bought and I'll buy a new washer and dryer?"
The manager's reply was "So you are asking me for 25% off then?"
"How do you figure i'm asking for 25%?
"Cause we are having a 10% off sale right now. So you want me to waive the restocking fee of 15% and give you today's price that is 10% off.

Frustrating.
