I went into Fashings Car Wash in Arcadia, CA and paid for my SUV to be washed. The SUV was sent through the wash process. During the wash process there was a delay of some kind? When I entered the car wash I was the only car being washed at the time. Several other patrons entered and had their car washed after me. Upon completion of the car wash I found that my windshield was cracked.
The crack is on the right lower (passenger side) quadrant of the windshield. The crack is approximately 22' long and arcs left towards the driver's side of the windshield (when facing the winndhsield from the front bumper).
I regularly inspect my vehicle and it was last inspected 3 days prior to the car wash cracking my windshield. At the last inspection I did not see any cracks or chips in the windshield I am positive that the crack was not there when my vehicle was turned over to the car wash.
The ambient temperature today in the city was 91*F. My car had not been driven today except to the 1.3 miles to the car wash and it was garaged out of the sunlight today/prior thus the windshield could not have been at a higher temperature close to that of the ambient temperature. When I left the SUV in the care and custody of the car wash I walked into their main lobby. As I passed the main lobby I was misted by the overspray of the car wash. The overspray did not feel cold-it felt body temperature.
The car wash has several robotics that move rotary brushes along the sides, hood, windshield, roof, and rear area of the vehicles that pass thrrough it.
My windshield is the original manufacturer's windshield and has nevver been replaced before.
I drive the vehicle mainly on city streets where it is unlikely that any "road hazard" or rock impacted the windshield previously. If it had I would have immediately stopped, and inspected the windshield for cracks or chips in the glass.
When I talked to the General Manager there he blew me off and explained that the car wash had no liability, and was self insured. About 30 minutes later once I arrived at my next destination I called the car wash and spoke to the Owner, George Fasching, who in essence told me to go fly a kite they wouldnt look into the problem and wouldnt help in the repair costs at all daring me to sue for damages.
This car wash has been around several years, and advertises in several of the local newspapers and as many philanthropic organizations. They have a significant web presence.
It will cost me $550 to sue in small claims court, $500 to have it repaired via my automobile insurance carrier, and $450 to have it repaired at the dealership.
On another note, they do provide great car washes at a reasonable price...
Regardless I'm going to make it a personal campaign to let everybody I know what happened. Maybe the "Rule of 25's" will play a factor in generating some professionalism on the car washes part.
