Think twice about shopping at a store that rips you off!

Shops, Products, Services

This story will make you think twice about shopping at Jim Laabs.

In December of I went to the store to buy a sound system. I found a brand new power head and two used but rebuilt speakers. The guy that was helping me, Jeff, had rebuilt the speakers himself. I trusted him with the rebuilds and purchased them. I set up a pay plan to pay so much down and so much a month. Jeff said he would send a bill in the mail in January.

Well the new year came and Febuary, and March, and so on. I never recieved a bill or any notice for the equipment. I used my speakers two times and they stopped working but I didn't have time to contact the store about them and I just used my old pair.

So it was already late June and I decided that I was going to go to the store and find out why I hadn't been billed yet. But before I went I got something in the mail from the store. It was a notice of SIX months of overdue payments. I was a little confused because i had never gotten ANY bills.

Two weeks went by and before I could do anything or contact anyone, I recieved another notice of an overdue payment, over $50 in interest, and a letter stating that they would take me to court if I didn't pay up. I immediatly went to the store and confronted the manager because Jeff was not there. She told me that they sent bills since January but I proved to her that I hadn't gotten any and showed her the only two I had. I told her that the speakers only lasted me two jobs and she told me to contact Jeff.

Well since I only wanted the power head and wanted them to take the speakers back, I paid the remaining balance on the power head that day. The manager told me that Jeff would be contacting me to talk about what he can do with the speakers.

Almost three months went by and Jeff never contacted me and when I tried calling, he never seemed to be there. So i went to the store and Jeff was there and I told him the siuation with the speakers. I asked him if I could trade them in for new speakers since I needed them anyway. He said that would be fine. So I picked out a pair of brand new speakers and asked him to put them aside, for i wouldn't be back to purchase them for a few weeks. He told me the balance of the new speakers after the trade and I thought everything was resolved.

So about a month later, I took my speakers to the store and when I got there and told Jeff I was ready to make my trade, he said he didn't remember ever talking to me about it. So I told him that I was going to trade in my speakers for new ones, he said that the pair I had picked out was not on lawaway. Then when I told him that the speakers were junk, he said that the store can't take them back. I reminded him that he was the one that rebuilt them speakers and he simply denied it.

On top of all of this, Jeff made me pay the remaining balance on the equipment that I had purchased almost a year before. So I am stuck here now with two junk speakers that I payed for and was not able to return them for anything.

So if you ever shop for musical equipment, DON'T EVER SHOP AT JIM LAABS!!!
