Direct Tv charges $240 for cancelling after 7 years of continuous service!

Recently, I made a decision to switch to cable T.V. & called my current satellite company - Direct TV - with whom I'd had service with for seven years. The representative told me that although I had been a long standing customer that the upgrade made to equipment via online in March had a 2 year commitment and I would be charged $20 per month for every month left on the contract. That was a total of $60. I agreed to pay the charge they said would be payable upon final billing. I called another week later to see if the bill was cycling out and, again, a new rep reiterated that the final bill for early cancellation would be $60.

Well, the bill finally did arrive and was for the full cancellation fee of $240 & despite repeated attempts to have it removed, I've not gotten anywhere. I talked to another rep who said the case was escalated with the management team & they refused to remove or pro-rate the charge. This rep gave me another date for the equipment upgrade — May — and that there was nothing she could do but send my original signed contract. What they sent me was a generic term & condition pamphlet without any reference to my account and no signature. So then I went online to pull e-statements to trace back when the new upgrade took place, but was not allowed to pull up any statements.

Direct TV has been horrible to deal with and I will tell everyone I come into contact with to be wary of doing business with them due to this experience.
