In early January I pruchased a 1.4mm 14k yellow gold round box chain from the online retailer PRICEROCK.com. I felt comfortable shopping with them, as the description listed the chain of "exquisite quality" and the close up photos looked great. Making me feel even more at ease to shop here, was the 30 day refund guarantee they have listed right on thier home page.

The day the chain arrived, I was immediately disappointed. It looked cheap, and fake (like gold plated), and was very lightweight. I took it to 2 local jewelers who both confirmed that the chain was of low quality, and they both confirmed it weighed significantly less the the 4.1g measurement listed when I bought the chain. The chain is marked 14k, but is very pale in gold color. I did not want to pay the local jewelers to have it tested, as I already knew I'd like to return the chain.

I went back to PRICEROCK.com website, to read the details of how I should get my refund. I was surprised and disappointed to find that there is an ABOVE AVERAGE for the industry "restocking fee" of 25%! That right there is a big RED FLAG to me. I wish I would have read this BEFORE I purchased. That means the company intends to make $ of your purchase, no matter how poor the transaction is. The fine print states that you must email customer service to get an RMA# (need thier approval) to return the merchandise.

I have emailed them 3 different times over the past few weeks, and have had NO response from PRICEROCK.com. Also, I obtained two listed phone numbers for them (732) 765-8181 and (888) 465-3810. I have called both numbers on several different days, and get NO ANSWER and NO RECORDING. The phone just rings forever!

At this point, I figure I've just been scammed, and am out the $130 I paid for something that is of low quality that I'd never wear. I think this company gets by playing the numbers. They probably figure that most people can't tell the difference between poor and good quality, and will keep thier purchase. For folks who are dissapointed with thier purchase, they just give you the run around, and you never get your money back. Because of the low purchase price... I'd guess many people just give up, call it a lesson learned and quietly go away.

I'm not one to quietly go away. I'll be filing complaints within thier home state of NJ. I think they should be closed down at best, or made to be much more honest and transparent on thier website. When they list the fact that they offer a 30 day guarantee or refund... Their should be an (*) right there to make you see a comment that a refund can be denied at thier whim and refund is subject to a restocking fee. That one little change woulud have a lot of shoppers think twice before buying here... As they should!

Remember, you get what you pay for (and sometimes even LESS)!
