Junk Diamond Rings

On March 24 my husband purchased a wedding ring-set from Elegant Creations, less than 30 days later one of the diamonds fell out of the engagement right. The Store Manager agreed to exchange the ring-set, however, it was clear that he was engaging in price gouging, as suddenly all the rings that we were now looking at, were priced much higher than on our previous visit. We decided to settle the matter in Court.

I went to Union County Court before Judge Daniel, who refused to take into account that price gouging tactics were in effect here. His main focus was that we did not go back to the store within 30 days. The jeweler only gave us a 30 day warrantee, he did not disclose that there was a 1-year manufacturer warrantee. The Jeweler conveniently kept this little piece of information to himself, now that the 1 year had passed, with this back and forth court process, he promptly disclosed it. When we went to Court the Store Manager indicated that he would gladly exchange the ring-set. At a later date when my husband and I went back to the store to settle the matter, the Manager refused to honor his promise of the exchange. Upon my husband's pleading, he then decided to make the exchange.

In preparation for this exchange, I had asked my sister to accompany us to the store. She went into the store, separate from us, and priced a diamond tennis bracelet, after which my husband and I went in and priced the same item. Mr. Albert Kalantarov, the store manager, told my sister that the price was $1250, however, he told my husband and me that the same item was $1750—$500 more for the same item. My sister came back into the store and joined us, at that point Mr. Kalantarov recognized that we were aware of his price gouging tactics and he refused to serve us.

I still have the rings in my possession, just yesterday I picked up the wedding band out of the case, and another diamond fell out.
