Destination Movers
Another victim of a scam

Shops, Products, Services

Well, it happened to us too! Upon learning that we were moving I began researching moving companies and started receiving email and phone calls from several movers. When I initially talked to destination they made the deal sound very promising, but I continued to research further. I talked it over with my husband who said immediately no way it's probably a scam.

I looked them up with the better business bureau, they had a good rating. I did not resarch far enough apparently and did not see the rip off reports until it was too late! After selecting destination as the company we would go with I went to their website and filled out an inventory list. We were living in a 1 room loft style apartment that came fully furnished, so the quote of $1646 sounded reasonable to me. I even asked her specifically if this would increase and was told no that this was a guranteed flat rate binding estimate. Long story short...

On our moving day the drivers show up 4.5 hours late and end up being at my place until 1 am. We had all of our stuff boxed up and only need furniture pads for a dresser, night stand, table, tv stand, desk, aquarium, tv and 2 lamps. The furniture pads were to be provided at no charge. But apparently those few items would require $500 worth of packing materials.

After our stuff is loaded onto the truck the driver comes to us with a revised estimate of $2896.25. The binding estimate states that the price is guranteed not to exceed 110% if we provided them with an accurated inventory list. Which we did. We actually ended up taking less than the original 70 items on the list. We only had 54 items go on the truck. So explain how the price jumps from 1646 to 2896?!? Yes I signed the binding estimate electronically and then we signed the revised estimate because they already had our stuff loaded on the truck and the driver told us we had to and actually wanted to collect more money from us that night at 1 am in the morning! Our hands were tied and we didn't know what to do. We told them that we weren't paying more that night and were going to talk to someone at the company about the contract. Upon trying to do this we got nowhere. No return calls, no answers, nothing.

As of today, may 19th, we stilll have not received our stuff. We are fast approaching the cut off date of may 23rd for the 21 day delivery allowance time. The outcome of this situation is still to be determined. My advice: DO NOT us this companymake sure to research thourghlyKnow your rights and responsbilities
