Destination Movers
Manipulative Scaming Company

To whom it may concern:

My name is Jennifer Weeks order # 133100. I was extremely dissatisfied with Destination Movers customer service and ability to take responsibility for your customers. I have made numerous calls to Destination Movers over issues that have occurred. Having someone call me back and available to answer questions about these issues has become an issue in and of itself.

As you know, a move can be very stressful and the last thing I needed was Destination Movers making it shoddier. I had provided the exact weight and inventory of everything that was going on their truck, coincidently I had previously gotten my inventory weighed, which is where our problems began.

The movers arrived on time and were ready to work May 28. The lead guy, whose name I never got but it is signed as an X on all my paperwork, sat down and had me sign all the paperwork before it was filled out while the other 3 guys started loading my stuff. I asked him why I was signing paperwork that was not filled out and he said this is normal and this is how Destination Movers worked. Needless to say, the paperwork was signed and they all took loads to the truck.

Once the truck was full, the lead guy came back and gave me a new total that I owed ($2269) to Destination Movers.in their contract that was provided to me section 13. Rescission and new estimate it states: Or (2) the carrier and shipper may execute a Revised/Rescission document, PRIOR TO LOADING OR OTHERWISE BEGINNING THE JOB, this rescission document and new estimate given prior to loading will service as the only active estimate for which charges will be calculated. If this is the way business is done, that is their prerogative but I will not stand to be taken advantage of by any company. Not only had their guys loaded my stuff but also once he increased the price ($2269) and I refused to pay, he said he would leave my stuff outside and on the street; very unprofessional.

I immediately got on the phone and spoke with the manager and he said that this was wrong and he lowered the price, but still making it higher ($1900) than the original quote ($1371). It is comical to me how the movers still made it on time with their truck breaking down, then them asking me to pay a higher amount, and their manager not allowing the new revised quote.

At this point I felt very cheated and uncomfortable letting this company move my things but I was in a bind and needed to move my things across country. I paid the $950 and the guys left after a long conversation with the manager and the movers.

Upon my arrival in Austin, TX, I was told that the delivery driver was would arrive in five (5) business days to deliver my belongings; he did not show up with my stuff until the 6th of June, which is nine (9) days after my pick up date. It would take and idiot to see that this was almost twice as long as promised and that I had taken off that Tuesday the 3rd and Wednesday the 4th of work expecting my delivery to be there, when in fact it never arrived on time. At this point I was irritated and not satisfied with your company by any means.

Your delivery truck driver arrived at my apartment and because your driver did not show up to my new place when scheduled, I was at work and my cousin had to accept my belongings. As soon as the guy arrived he claimed that because he had to climb 3 flights of stairs, which is stated in my contract, that I owed him $200 more and that he would not unload my stuff until I paid him the extra. One, I was at work and it was stated in my contract that there were stairs, so I was not able to pay him right then and there. Two, my cousin was not going to pay extra for my delivery.

At this point my cousin is calling me and telling me what is going on and your driver is threatening to leave and take my stuff to a storage unit if I don't pay him in 15 minutes and once again I was hung up on. This was ridiculous, I called your manager and he was unavailable to take my call and never returned my call. I was caught in a huge bind because of your driver. I ended up paying the $200 plus my $950 unwillingly and very upset.

After he finished unloading my belongings and throwing around my furniture he called me to let me know he was done. I asked him if everything was put back together since your guys did disassembled all of my furniture and he told me he was not required to do that. As stated in your contract section 1. Any disassembly and reassembly of furniture is also included provided all parts are available. The shipper also understands that packing material and labor are not included and will be charged per items ordered and listed on the packing materials price list. Let me restate, Destination movers disassembled all of my furniture so Destination movers should have put all my furniture back together.

After I told the delivery driver that he has to put my stuff back together he got really mad and told me he is not, and I quote, fucking putting your (my) stuff back together. He hung up on me twice and then got in his truck and drove off. I did not appreciate the way he was talking to me and I will admit that after all of the frustrations that their company had put me through thus far, I was upset and raising my voice. However, there was no need for his behavior. He left with all the paper work, inventory lists, and my belongings strode in pieces all over the apartment. Not only had I paid in total an extra $729 but also, I was not given the respect I demand as a customer from a service industry company.

Since I did not receive an itemized list of my belongings I was not able to notice at the time that I am missing a few items:
1) My area rug that is tan and black and large (hard to miss)
2) A Box of winter clothes and a White coat inside of it (labeled with a pink or blue sharpie)
3) Screws to my end tables and dinning room table that were not taken apart by the pick up guys

On top of these missing items I also received damaged furniture that includes:
1) My flat screen television is dinged and scratched on the outer premises
2) My Tempurpedic mattress has a grease stain that is larger than 3 feet wide, I do not see how this is possible considering the mattress was taken wrapped in plastic?
This was very upsetting and unnecessary on part of Destination Movers as a company.

I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau (5) times and the Florida State Attorney's office. Now Destination Movers is stating that they have no documentation of delivery to me and they are not able to find any of my paperwork that the delivery driver took off with.

For the past 3 months I have been trying to file a claim against Destination Movers and have not been able to due to the fact that I have no paperwork confirming delivery. As you can imagine I am extremely upset and expect restitution not only for my lost time and personal inconvenience but more importantly for the blatant property damage sustained as a direct result of their gross negligence and unprofessionalism.
