$1800 Estimate - $6500 Final bill, Don't let this happen to you!

I was quoted $1,791.60,4148lbs @ 0.45 p/lb for a 1200 sq/ft 3 bedroom house. I provided a detailed list of furniture items and estimated 30 boxes. I did underestimate the number of boxes, but only missed a few small furniture items. They did no do an "In-Home Estimate" as required by law and used a quote calculator. Their inventory listed 243 items (110 of those boxes, 43 furniture items). I was not allowed to witness the truck weight empty. The weight loaded weight reported to me was 13,550lbs (9402lbs over estimate). They required me to make a written statement accepting the new weight and charges AND waive my right to reweigh at the destination. They demanded full payment if I wanted to ever see my household goods again. They did not provide copies of any documents that I signed until I had paid them in full at the destination. One of the things that upset me the most is that they new how much they were going to charge me before they ever weighed the truck which led me to believe that they use the underbid tactic to get people into the contract knowing full well that a 3bdrm house would yield much more than the bid. My internet investigation after the fact has yield many very similar stories. The driver at the destination reported that he had never seen so many missing items and damaged items in move and that many items were not wrapped or loaded properly resulting in the high damages.
