Charged early termination fee unfairly after adding second phone line

My roommate started using Alltel on Dec. 26 under a two-year contract. Out of his own kindness he added a second phone line for me back in July of this year.

Marcus' contract was due to end on 12/26/07. I was added as an authorized user on the account. I remember speaking with a representative from Alltel's retention department stating that we would NOT have to pay an early termination fee. We have been getting the run around. One rep would say yes we would have to pay $200 for early termination, but I asked this rep to carefully notate the account because when we cancel this account we do not want to have to run into any problems.

The rep states he notated the account. Well, today when Marcus canceled the account he was told he would be slapped with the $200 early termination fee. He did not wish to argue with them.

I called them at about 5 pm this evening and spoke with an upper supervisor who stated he never 'saw' where I spoke with anyone in that department, nor did he see any notations on the account that the fee would not be charged. The supervisor would not give way, saying there is a provision in the contract that states if we add another line that it would make the contract be extended for two years FROM WHEN the second phone was added. I was looking over the contract and didn't see anything of that nature.

I feel they are liars and cheat people. I was lied to by one of their incompetent reps and their management was not going to sway at all. They clearly wronged us and I want everyone to know about it, and if I could get legal action somehow, I would certainly fight them legally. They are crooks.
