Nextel - Sprint
Nextel service is a crap shoot but I am still being charged for early termination fee

I had been a customer of Nextel for years when I lived in Florida. The service was pretty good. When Nextel became Sprint, the service began to suck. I was getting dropped calls and bad reception in areas that had never been a problem before. Of course, Nextel/Sprint's solution was to purchase a new phone. I said No because the level of service should not be measured by the price of your phone. I had the basic model; nothing flipped open or lit up and that phone was working perfectly up until the merge. I was on a month to month plan as was my husband. He had a nicer phone than mine; it was shock proof and waterproof and yet is service also sucked.
When our oldest son began working, he wanted a phone as well. However, since he was a minor, he could not have his own contract. So, I added a line onto mine. Which of course threw me into a contract for 2 years. This happened in Dec. Of 2005. The contract would've ended Dec. Of 2007.in Feb. Of we decided to move out of Florida to Georgia. We took a trip up to find property. Our phones did not get reception at ALL in the city we were looking to relocate to. Upon returning to Florida, I called Nextel/Sprint and told them of my dilemma. They said there were no cell towers in that area for Nextels and reception would be a hit or miss. I was told that I could switch my contract from Nextel to Sprint at no charge. Guess again. When we moved to Georgia in April of I had to drive to the nearest store which was 45 minutes away in Anderson, SC. There the clerk said I would be charged a cancellation fee $200.00/per phone and then I could start a new contract with Sprint. Sprint maps showed they also had very poor reception in the NE Georgia area of our new home. I said hell no.
I came home and went online and looked up the Nextel service agreement plan. It stated that a contract could be cancelled without penalties if Nextel/Sprint could not offer coverage in your area. I wrote a letter to Nextel, copy and pasted that part of their agreement plan and waited for a response. No response came for weeks. I called and they said our plan had been cancelled. Two weeks later, I get a freaking bill for $400.00 early termination fee and I have been turned over to a collection agency.
I refuse to pay this bill as nextel/sprint has not held up thier end of the service agreement plan.
