Unless it is absolutely necessary, I would not port my numbers from sprint/nextel for any reason. They have a scam going that even the government can't (won't) stop. If you cancel in time to port your numbers from them to anyone (especially Cingular, because they are kicking their rearend right now) you will be hit with the early exit fee which is usually around $250.00. For some reason it takes sprint/nextel 5 to 6 days to port a number. Tracy, one of their robot supervisors, told me it takes sprint/nextel up to two weeks to port a number. The FCC says it should take no longer than 2 to 3 hours. I guess sprint/nextel is using the same computers that handle their phone service which has an enormous amount of dropped calls. They have a long list of supervisors that will give you the run around, lie to you and enter whatever into their call record to cover their rears. I have filed a complaint with the FCC also. I know that sprint/nextel could care less what I think, but I hope this will save at least one person some grief of having to deal with these losers. You decide!
