Ripoff systematically denied coverage and no-customer service

I signed up with Assurant Warranty services also known as Federal Warranty Services. The person who signed me up was from GE appliances store. I was keen on this company since they claimed they have a good BBB rating. It was later I found out that it was just a facade. The actual warranty service provider (Federal Warranty Services) was someone else and had a bad record in BBB. However, it was disappointment right from the start. They were very quick in taking the amount from my credit card. The actual warranty kicked in 2 months later. After 6 months, I had a problem with plumbing. The contract states it is covered. After 3 days of following up, I was finally told they do not cover it. They somehow figured that the leak is caused by the fixture without even checking. After this inordinate delay, I called in a plumber myself and he fixed the problem. A few weeks later, the hot water started running cold. I lodged a service request with the home warranty company. It took them 7 days to find a contractor. Each time I called, they promised that someone will be in touch within the next 24 hours. None called. The contractor was averse to dealing with home warranty companies denied there is a problem with the water heater. So Assurant refused to pay for the service. But the problem still persisted. When I asked Assurant, they said there are 5 people in my home who consume water, so it runs cold. I am not sure where they got the number 5 from, but as far as I know, I live with my wife and 18 month-old which comes to 3 people.

Federal Warranty Services systematically deny claims for coverage often claiming the defect does not exist or was a result of a pre-existing condition. Please stay away from this company. They go by many names GE Home appliances, Assurant Warranty Services, Federal Warranty Services, etc. The way they operate is tantamount to consumer fraud and breach of contract. The time, efforts, loss of money and frustation that one goes through with Assurant warranty isnt worth it. I closed my account a month back and still they have not refunded the pro-rated amount promised in the contract.
