I called direct TV a few days earlier and asked them of upgrading my standard receiver to a DVR and what the cost would be. I was told no charge increase at all. I purchased the DVR at Costco installed it and called DirecTV to program the new DRV. After about 10 mins. Of service I was told I would now have too agree to a new two-year contract.

I asked why when I paid for the receiver. I connected the system up and I'm already paying for the service and they did nothing at all. They stated that's our policy. Well the DVR is now going back to Costco and I'm now looking into other satellite services or cable.

I guess DirecTV is having problems keeping people so they are using tricks to keep you on a contract.
