Personal purchase of DireTv equipment at BestBuy extnds contract for 2 years

Have been customer of DirecTv for 9 years and gone through various upgrades.
Neve defaulted on payments and typically supplied my own equipment. Last upgrade 03/08 company upgraded my 3 personally purchased hd boxes to the new DirecTv HD1000receivers and new dish.
Summer 2009 son returned home from college so purchased another HD200 box from BestBuy and added it to the DirecTv account paying the monthly access fee.
December FiOS was released here at a much lower cost so converted. Attempted to cancel DirecTv contract and was asked for $420 early termination penalty fee as the addition of my own purchased HD receiver had extended my contract until 08/11!!!
I guess I'll pay, may take it to arbitration, but this is a real scummy way to do business. I guess you're meant to know that if you buy your own equipment from a retailer and then pay the access fee to use it that you are extending the contract on all other stuff that you have been using for many years.
