Turned my mothers $259.00 electric bill into a 1206.00 electric bill overnight ripoff

My mothers electric was roughly $259.00. She had set a payment arrangment just to extend the cutoff date by 2 hours so that she had time to get in and pay it. Well low and behold at 8:00 in the morning they shut off her electric.

When she called them they said they were unable to make payment arrangements because her account had been red flagged. She had them retrieve the audio tape of the phone call that extended the cutoff time and it did infact show that a payment arrangement had been made. But then they said that because I am her daughter and that I had a previous bill in my name that no arrangement should have been made and that they were right in turning off the electricity.

They then said that she had to pay a total of $1206.00 (her bill, my bill, and an additional deposit) And said that they would not turn the electric back on for another week. Now being a paralegal she knows that you can not charge a customer their families bills and an additional deposit just like you can not put someone into debtors prison. They said that if I so much as walked into her house or if my children did I was benefiting from the APS electric services thus making her responsible for my bill.

We offered evidence of my current lease showing that I do not live with her and told them that they can not charge her for my bill even if I did. They said that my lease ment nothing and that it could just be that I lease a house under my name and live with her to avoid paying my bill.

Now I'm pretty sure that renting my own place costs alot more that paying off the bill with APS so that makes absolutely no sense. They are using tactics to make other people pay for others bills that they are not obligated to do so. So with the electric turned off and 117 degree weather she had no choice but to vacate the house and had that put on her credit.

So help me God I will never ever ever do business with APS again and I hope you wont either!
