My girlfriend gave in to a telemarketer on a program for magazine subscriptions. They gave her seven days to cancel if she changed her mind and there would be no charge for the service. She called the next day to cancel but all she got was a recorded phone service with a cancellation option so she canceled her service on the phone system.

A few months later, she noticed her credit card getting charged about $82.00 a month, never received any statements. She canceled the credit card so they could not charge it anymore. Then, when she received a bill because her credit card was canceled, she called the number on the statement and talked to a very rude woman who said there was nothing she could do and they had no record of her calling them. She asked for a manager, they transfered her and the manager was ruder than the previous person and hung up on her.

Just today she received another statement in the mail. I called them to get the facts straight. They again said that she never canceled the service, but it was canceled by the company on jan 11th and if she paid the remaining $255 on her account the account would close. I told her that was crazy because she canceled the service one day after she signed up and that they already charged her credit card several hundred dollars.

She explained to me that there was nothing they could do and she has to pay the bill to cancel the account.

I've had my share of companies mess with me with offers like this, and am tired of it. Wondering what we can do about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We have ordered both of our phone records for the last six months to see how many times we've talked to them. We want to get our facts straight.

Also thought it is interesting that the statement says for any questions about the bill to contact Benjamin Lima and is lists their phone number. I called and asked for Benjamin Lima and they say that no one by that name has ever worked for that company, and could not explain why his name is printed on their statement that these sent to us. They said they have no men working there, all the employees are women they told me, but it was a guy that called her and set up the account for her. Don't know how that can be???
