Stole antique rug, said it was lost, & tried to sell it to another business

I took my antique rug to the cleaners to have it cleaned. Every time I went to pick it up, they did not have it there. Two months later, they told me it was lost and they would have to write me a check for compensation, only $200.

I bought a new rug to replace it and have been using it for a month. I went into the cleaners yesterday to pick up an old skirt that had been there and the woman working told me they acutally had the rug in back.

She showed it to me and said that her manager was planning on selling it for $350 to a rug shop because it was an antique. She said if I wanted it back I had to pay them the $200 they had given me a month earlier.

I have already used the money and the store will not take back the rug I have been using, so now I have to use $200 of my own money to buy back my property from them. I would understand, but knowing they lied the whole time and put me through this is infuriating.

Basically, they lied saying they lost my rug so they could sell it and now they are making me pay to get it back. I am stuck with a new rug I didn't need and now having to pay to get my property back from theives.
