Shops, Products, Services

I am sending in my own complaint regarding Verizon Wireless and their sales and customer service screw ups. Let me tell you my story and hopefully someone can give me an idea of what to do.

On November 10 I went into the Sioux Falls Verizon store along 41st street and decided to obtain cellular service since I wanted to get away from my faulty Tracfone. Of course my Tracfone starts working again (we have terrible reception out here in the Dakotas) and I find out that my Verizon phone is slow and not what I had wanted. I was told by the Sales associate that internet service was free on the phone but I should have known this was not the case, it's $4.99 per month for service that just tells you the weather or something, not even real internet service. I was billed for this but thankfully I didn't have the phone long enough so it was promptly taken off.

Anyhow, I returned my phone to the store and cancelled my service on Nov. 15, well within the 15 day money back return policy. Since I did not give Verizon my SSN I put down a $400 security deposit and since I had my plan for a couple of days the deposit was down to $387.13. I was told by the CSR at the store that it would be a couple of weeks before I get my deposit back. Two weeks pass. No check. I go back and ask another CSR at the store about the check. They say it will be about six to eight weeks. I went down to the store two or three other times and I am told to wait longer. I ask why it takes so long and I am always told that its handled by another department, nothing more.

On January 6 I went down to the 41st. Street store and asked the CSR at the desk about the issue again. He called the Customer Service number and after about a half hour or so gave me the phone to talk to Asata who said that since my phone service ended in November I would receive a check from Verizon around the 17 of January. January 17th came around, no check.

Today I went to the kiosk in the Empire mall in Sioux Falls and spoke with a manager, Matt, the only guy working there and he said that my phone service ended on January 7 (I have been recieving statements from verizon since November even though I stopped my service, all showing a credit of $387.13) and I will receive my check six to eight weeks from January 7. I got a bit mad, which is natural for any human being, and explained to him the entire situation. He basically told me to blow it out my ass but I did document everything he said to me.

I feel that I will have to write off this $387.13 but before I do that I will write a letter to the corporate offices and will contact the Department of Commerce, Attorney General, perhaps even the Federal Bureau of Investigations since holding on to a persons money for such a long period of time could be considered criminal in some cases. Thank god I never gave Verizon my SSN or other information because who knows what would have happened. Stay away from this company if you can. I suspect it could be a front for drug hustling or something.
