Big 5 Sporting Goods
Garbage for sale - Luggs, Dr. Scholls

Shops, Products, Services

I bought a pair of walking shoes and a pair of work shoes in the Roseville, CA store.

The walking shoes were Dr. Scholls brand, so I expected at least fair quality. The soles and heels came unglued and flopped as I walked. I re-glued them with Shoe Goo, but then the finish began peeling from the shoes, it was only a sprayed-on layer of black vinyl. They became completely unpresentable. All this happened within only 5 weeks of use, most of it indoors.

The work shoes were Luggs. While the uppers held up OK and still look fine, the heels and soles are molded with hollow cavities inside for shock absorbtion, I imagine. After just three weeks of wear, the rubber of the soles and heels began to crack and crumble. I was on a business trip, visiting some very small towns in North Dakota and couldn't find suitable replacements, so I kept wearing them. Now I have Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot. I wore them for just three weeks before they began to fall apart. After 5 weeks, they were completely unwearable.

I took them back to the store and the manager said "What do you expect for inexpensive shoes?" He refused to do anything about it.

What I expect of ANY shoes is that they don't cripple me! I'll never be seen inside a Big 5 again!
