Collection ripoff Harassment of a handicapped person on dialysis with renal failure

My husband was attending community college under a pell grant in 2002. He was hospitalized for renal (kidney) failure and subsequently had to make the choice between college or dialysis in order to live.

My husband of course had to choose dialysis and was forced to leave the class before the 20% mark. The department of Education turned the pell grant situation into a loan situation, which my husband wasn't aware of until he began receiving letters concerning default of a student loan that he didn't even have.

Now Van Ru has coerced my husband into giving them direct contact to his bank account, and will be deducting 50.00 a month from an income solely based on SSI. I feel that the whole situation is not right and that there should be no payback of the grant due to extenuating medical circumstances.

Either way, the Van Ru employees that have called here have been excessively rude, almost to the point of being vulgar. If that is the common business practice in corporate America, then it is little wonder that our economy is suffering.
