Russell Gordon Hays - Sheila Tague
Private party sold me a car lied and said they had a title for it

Politics & Government

I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 1990 Dodge Colt for 500.00. I called the number listed and Sheila answered the phone. She informed me the car ran fine, had no major problems, and was very reliable. I asked her if she had the title, and she said yes. I went to look at the car and it appeared to run ok on the short test drive I took in it. I gave her the 500.00 and asked her for the title and a bill of sale. She handed me the Registration form and the bill of sale. She said the AZ DMV said that was all I needed since it was an open title. I told her I needed a title, but she assured me I didn't, and if I did, she would go to the DMV with me. On the way home, the oil light came on, so I stopped and put a quart in, and went to pick up my son. We hadn't driven too far when the car died. We pushed it off the road and opened the hood. Smoke came pouring out of the car. We checked the oil and saw that it was completely empty. I bought two more quarts of oil, and started home. I didn't make it all the way home, which is about 5 miles, before the oil light came on again. I put more oil in, and headed home. When I pulled into the driveway, there was a trail of oil following me. I had only had the car about 2 hours, so I tried to call Sheila back to find out what was wrong with the car.
She would not answer her phone.

My son finally got hold of her, and she said that was too bad, she wasn't giving our money back. She then restricted both our numbers so we couldn't call her anymore. I drove about 40 miles in the car over the weekend, and used 32 quarts of oil. A mechanic came out and said the rear main seal was leaking, and it had been for quite a while. I called the police and they said they couldn't do anything, even though it is against the law here to sell a car without a title. Needless to say, I am stuck without a car, and I can't even sell it because I don't have a title.

They are con artists. The apartments where they had me come and look at the car wasn't even where they lived. They pretended to live there so I wouldn't find out their real address. I am a 60 year old female that barely makes enough to get by, and cannot afford to be ripped off by these con artists. I want everyone to know to stay away from them. She tried to appear honest and trustworthy, but money doesn't give you class, so guess she will never have any.
