Early termination fee

For about 1 week in feb. I had no phone service in my area. I use my phone for my bussiness and with no service i lost a $ 40,000 job. I called 6 times and was switched from one person to another and hung up on twice. The last person i spoke to i told them i would have to cancil my service for bussiness reasons and was told they would wave the termination fee. I just recived a letter saying they are charging a $ 170.00 termination fee and will send it to collection agency if i doint make the payment.
