Medtronic doesn't know how to submit claims

Miscellaneous

In June I placed an order for a new pump with Medtronic. I knew that my insurance was very iffy and often difficult to work with, so I did not want to order the new pump without having confirmation that my insurance would cover most of it. A very nice person from Medtronic worked with me and as my advocate with the insurance company, and after several back-and-forth phone calls it seemed that everything was settled, with the Medtronic representative telling me that my insurance company would pay 80% of the cost of my new pump, so I went ahead with the order, which should have cost me roughly around $1000-$1500. However, 8 months later in February I received a $6500 bill in the mail for the new pump. The wrong insurance was listed on the bill and, when I called Medtronic about it, it seemed they had been contacting the wrong insurance company on my behalf. This was confusing because the representative I worked with in June definitely worked with the correct insurance company, so how it all got messed up was confusing to me.in any case, I faxed a copy of my insurance information to Medtronic so they could submit the claim again. Another month later, I get the same bill in the mail with the same wrong insurance company listed. I called Medtronic again and they promised it wouldn't happen again as I read off all of the information on my insurance card. At the end of May I received a phone call from Medtronic saying that my insurance company had no record of me. Well guess what... Medtronic contacted yet another wrong insurance company. Finally, as I've come to expect at this point, I received yet another bill in the mail today, once again for $6500. This time with the correct insurance company listed, but wrong ID number. I do not recommend this company to anyone, since they cannot seem to be honest about their dealings. Tomorrow I am calling them and informing them that I refuse to pay the bill and I will return the now year-old pump (which already experienced major malfunctions, to boot) to them. Maybe my insurance company really does not cover pumps, but that is Medtronic's fault for misleading me over a year ago when I went through the process of obtaining the pump, so I refuse to pay for their mistakes.
