Miscellaneous

A young man came to my door named Michael claiming he was the son of James and Katherine who lived across the street at another town house development. He too gave the speil that he was a collge student attending American University in DC and was selling magazine subscriptions to earn points towards an interinship with the BBC in London this summer. We chatted about the UK which I have visited and the upcoming Olympics. Foolishly I bought 2 magazine subscriptions to donate to a Veterans hospital for wounded returning vets from Iraq & Afghanistan. As soon as I wrote the check he quickly left. Being suspicous I walked otuside 2-3 minutes later and saw that he was gone. Being a heavier set guy my dread hit me as I reaized he could not have gotten away that quickly. I went on line and came across this website with complains of the same details in York, PA just about 100 miles away. I called the cops and spoke to an officier providing detail descriptions and my finding online. As the officer drove away and I turned to see another man talking to my neighbor with a smiliar check fold like from a restaurant—it even said Thank You on the cover. I ran up exicited that this was scam and ran towards the departing police car. I yelled to my neighbors to call 911 and followed him down street. He warned me that it was against the law to touch him and that if this were Texas he could beat me up becuase I touched his shoulder. Within minutes the officer who I first spoke with
arrived and apprehended the guy. They conficated 2 checks from the guy and called one of the people to get their check. He admitted to some offenses but did not have identication on him. The police, a couple neighbors and I drove around looking for the accomplices. We tracked them and eventually they gave us the shake. I trust they are leaving town now that the cops are looking for them. Well at least two people did not lose money. I now vowed to never donate to anyone I do not know an will treatening them with police action if they don't leave my property. How do these people live with themselves. I wish upon them a nasty life of solidtude and painful misfortune for the good people who they mistreat.
