MODEL TC-P50X1 review

Miscellaneous

As a Panasonic customer for many years, through my own family and my husbands, we decided to purchase a 50 inch, 720p, plasma Viera TV because of the quality we knew. It was a steal! The price was incredible, and looking at comparisons, the quality of the "lesser" 720p to the 1080i was impressive. We bring the tv home, all of our friends and family were impressed with the size and quality of the tv. We were extremely happy, that was until our NEW tv COMPLETELY shut off and started to blink 7 red blinks after having the tv for only 9 MONTHS. Apparently, straight from the repair mans mouth, this is a common problem with Panasonic tvs as of lately. The boards have problems. The SD board shorted out, and had to be replaced. Thankfully, this was covered under our 1 year warranty. Now? Only 4 MONTHS after the LAST repair, AND out of warranty? The TV shuts off, and now there are 12 blinks—which apparently means a sound SOS H board. We have called repair companies to get estimates on the cost to fix the tv, and every response was "$300-not worth fixing". I am VERY dissapointed in the poor quality of this tv and the fact that in the span of 4 MONTHS, we will have to repair this tv AGAIN. The tv isn't even 18 MONTHS OLD! What are we resorting to using to watch the news in the morning? A 25 inch tv that is 17 years old! I have read online about thousands of people having the SAME problems that my husband and I are having with this tv, and I for one will warn anyone that wants to purchase a new Panasonic to be extremely cautious. We are living proof of the problems their new tvs have. After being a Panasonic customer for generations, this is making me rethink my brand of choice.
