Why don't they answer the phone?

I received a letter in the mail this past friday. The letter was a "Notice of intention to foreclose." I want to talk to someone to dispute the validity of the of the debt. We were offerd a trial modification in the month of July and we paid on it August 1st. I have been calling since Monday without success! This is so frustrating. Why don't they answer the phone! I have been calling since Monday and I stay on the phone for hours and I never talk to anyone! What do I have to do??? I just sent in the payment for September!
