Purchasing of a promotional notebook

I purchased a notebbook via telephone and was given a period of time in which i could pay the total cost in full. The time for the promotion expires in july. I received a call via telephone on may 3rd informing me that i was being asssessed a late fee of $39.00 for april. I tried to explain to the agent without successs i did not enter into any such contract. I would like your immediate help in resolving this pressing matter.
