Won't honor their discount coupons when matching competitor ads

I received a discount offer in the mail for $20.00 off a purchase of $150.00 or more. It stated the offer was valid from 12/24/09 to 12/30/09. I had just made a purchase of $352.02 on my Home Depot Credit Card on 12/11/09—missed the date by 13 days. Called the store to see if discount would be available to me and was told just bring in the receipt and they would return & resell me the item with the extra $20.00 off. Great, I thought, until arriving at the store with my receipt to find that because the item I purchased originally had been billed as a "competitor adjustment" with a discounted price, I was not eligible for the extra $20.00 discount. Why is it that just because Home Depot matches a competitors price, a customer is not entitled to the extra discount offer? I did not purchase the item at special store discount or a promotional price or a special incentive program price—it was to match a competitor. I believe I should still be eligilbe for the extra $20.00 discount. Can anyone in corporate customer service authorize an over-ride adjustment for this? Please respond with an answer before the promo date expires on 12/30/09. Maybe you can directly do an internal adjustment on my Home Depot charge account for the $20.00. The bar code # on the offer card is 98154000000533405816216340—so you can void it out so it can't be used again. Thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter.

The answer was received via email and I was told by a CSR they could not offer me any further discount on this purchase. So, I responded again asking for a supervisor to review this matter—received a phone call 3 days later from a very ignorant fellow named Adrian, who was supposed to be a resolution specialist. He also would not honor the extra $20.00 offer. I asked Adrian if for the sake of $20.00 he would not mind losing a customer who has spent several thousands of dollars over the last several years at Home Depot. He seemed fine with that, so, I told him that I would pay off my $601.59 balance on the due date and cancel my account with Home Depot—which I have since done. I sure hope Adrian is happy with himself—because of his stubborness and lame company policy of not giving two discounts off the same item, regardless of the reason, Home Depot has alienated me, my family, and anyone I know or may come in contact with. Way to go, genius, you have successfully lost way more business than this issue is worth and made me and everyone I know LOWES customers from now on. I don't know how your superiors feel about your attitude, but they should consider replacing you before you cost them even more business.
