Ripoff the business that doesnt give a damn

I am a current Target employee, but (hopefully) not for long.

I have worked for the company for about 3.5 years, and I loved it so much, I thought I would retire there.

Things started changing about a year ago. When I needed to change my availability due to the loss of a baby sitter (the death of one of my parents), they nearly fired me because I was no longer available to work weekends. I am a part time employee, not full time. Daycare is only available in my area Mon.-Fri. I was an excellent employee...#1cashier just about every week and top credit card seller (I know, everyone hates the visa card, but i NEVER forced or tricked anyone into swithching!)

None of that mattered, and there were poeple working there already that didn't have weekend availability. I finally found a family member willing to watch my child if I paid them, so I didn't get fired, but they would have canned an excellent employee just because I had i child.

Hours began to get cut, and for christmas time we were told they would pick up, but they didn't. Target decided to hire about 60 people instead, and let go of most of them in January. It is very difficult to go from an average of 23 hours a week to 10. Some weeks we'd only get 4 hours... How do you live off that?

I know this is long, but here comes the rip off...

Target corporation has decided to change the status of it's employees based on... Average hours worked! So, THAT'S why they have been cutting our hours over the past year! Imagine that! I, like many others, now fall into the "limited" part time employee category. We will lose all of our benefits, except employee discount, if we do not average over 20 hours a week. As if that were up to us! There are notes posted by the schedule EVERY WEEK of people looking to pick up hours. I have a daily prescription that I will not be able to afford when I lose my health insurance. They claim if we open our availability, we'll get more hours. Well, gee, I guess I'll just put my child up for adoption so I can do that!!! Thing is, even people with open availability look for more hours every week!

So Target has become the company who doesnt give a damn about it's employees. It doesn't matter how long you've worked there, or how outstanding of an employee you are. Store level managers are unable to help because it's "corporate policy" But I'd like to see one of those head honchos who make over a million a year, you know, the ones who make all these lousy decisions that destroy the lives of us employees, live off of our weekly paychecks!

What they don't seem to realize is that not having enough employees to service the customers REALLY hurts a business. That's what's happening to K-mart s in our area. And it's where Target is heading too...
