Con Artist who steals money

Wanted to submit a FYI to inform/warn homeowners of a situation I am currently going through. I hired AJK Home Improvements (Arthur J. King IV) to build a detached garage for me in Dec 07 (which to date is still not complete). This individual has received more than 50% of the contracts' worth; however, has barely completed 25% of the work. He utilized our funds to pay personal debt, while writing our seven subcontractors non-sufficient funds checks.

I have found out that I am not the only one he has done this to. I have been in contact with two prior customers of his. They have let me know how his work is less than quality and how he has taken money from them and never finished their job.

We had to fire him due to his admittance that he does not have any funds to complete our job due, because his license has recently been "suspended" due to numerous complaints, and being told by two new contracting companies that the little work he has done is wrong and does not follow the contract. Unfortuantley, his record was clean when we hired him. We were unaware that paperwork was in the works for formal complaints.
