New Card Account Reported 9/1/07 Though I Never Applied

It seems I am a VICTIM of this underhanded scheme by Citibank as well. My Experian TripleAdvantage service alerted me on 10/15 that Transunion and Equifax had both received reports of new accounts. The two were listed under similar names and look like a single account. In my Experian report there is also a Citi credit card account newly opened on 9/1/07.

An old Macy's account exists in my name, though I have not used it for several years. I never applied for any Citibank card, and this is a serious matter that SHOULD be illegal. My plan is to get in touch with the Attorney General of Washington State and file a complaint, and to cancel the card the moment it comes in the mail. For now I must wait, as I do not yet have a card number to refer to.
