Shaw Industries
Ripped-Off by the business that doesn't give a damn

Miscellaneous

I purchased a new home 2 months ago. After moving in we decided to pull up the stick-on plastic runners that protected the carpet. We noticed pinkish orange spots in several rooms of the house. The carpet is a beige so they showed up well. The spots ranged from dime size to silver dollar size. We immediately called the carpet store where the carpet was purchased. They sent a man out within about a week and looked at the spots.

He clamed it was a factory defect and needed to contact the factory (Shaw Industries). Shaw finally sent someone after hounding them for several weeks. The Rep. Said that a Chemist needed to be called in to figure out what caused these spots. Meanwhile the spots seemed to grow larger and I had missed several hours of work to meet with these people. After contacting there website below is the correspondence there after.

Products have entered the market containing benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient. This chemical is a very strong oxidizing agent capable of destroying most dyestuffs used in carpet. It can be the cause of mysterious yellow, orange or pinkish spots which appear where apparently no spill has taken place. The spots will appear spontaneously. The spots when coming in contact with high humidity will actually grow much larger than the original spot. This can be found in acne medication.

My response:

I realize that the cause needs to be investigated, but I am the consumer that is making the sacrifices here. I have missed several hours of work in order to meet YOUR peoples schedules. The buck stops here. Don't you think it would have made better since to have the Rep. Take a sample when he was here? Your chemist called me awhile ago and tried to schedule an appointment LONG before I get home from work. I refuse to adjust my schedule to meet YOUR needs anymore. I will contact my contractor one last time to help resolve this issue. If resolution is not met with in 2 weeks I will file a claim with the B.B.B. And seek legal assistance.

I don't know who you are talking about when you reference "your people" in your email. The Claims Department makes all decisions on claims (re:
inspections, replacement, etc). If you have a 8"x8" affected area (that is not cut from the middle of your floor) to submit to us for testing, please send it to: Attn: Letitia Oliver / Mail Drop 026-04, Shaw Industries, Inc., PO Box 40, Dalton, GA 30722 (regular mail). Or Attn: Letitia Oliver/Mail Drop 026-04, Shaw Industries Inc., 3435 Lower Dug Gap Rd., Dalton, GA 30720 (if using Fed-Ex, UPS)

At this time, we will be closing the claim until an inspection can be arranged and done between you and the inspector or until a sample has been received by me.

If you have any question, feel free to contact me at 706-275-XXXX.
