Ripoff

My husband and I rented with this company for a little over a year until we moved to Dallas in 2004. The only thing we did not do before we left the apt was clean carpets (which I've never had to do at any other apt). They not only took our deposit, but we recieved a bill saying they we're going to charge us for cleaning.
Before we moved I not only requested in person to recieve receipts for any cleaning charges, but I also wrote a letter and attached it to the keys when I turned them in.

A month or two after we moved I recieved a bill so I called to once again request receipts and they said they would mail them. Then I recieved a late notice and I called again, and double checked the address, but once again I never recieved them. After my next notice I asked my mother-in-law to go by their office and get coppies for me (she still lived in the area & they are not open on the weekends). After a while of looking they said that they had no file on either my husband nor me. After this, I no longer worried about it, thinking that maybe they never acctually cleaned the carpet, and therfore had no reciepts.

Today October 5th, I recieved this letter:

Since you have ignored pervious requests for payment to Texstar Properties, you have now incurred additional fees as promised. You outstanding balance as of this date is $119.00. The balance is due immediately.
Your current balance is now reflecting on our credit report which can affect your future employment, loan applicaions and rental properties.

Please contact this office immediately so amicable arrangement can be made to clean this debt and avoid further legal actions being taken.

This office is attempting to collect te above described indebtness information obtained will be used for that purpose.
All payments must be mad by money order mor cashiers check only. No cash or checks will be accepted.

And, yes they gramatically errors were in the letter sent to me.

I plan on calling Texstar first thing in the morning, but this company is so shady, they are trying to cheat people with every opportunity. I made EVERY attempt to resolve this issue, all I requested were receipts and they could not even meet that request. And it was years ago!!
