Was told by a "case evaluator" named "Kyle Owens" that My South Dakota Housing Authority mortgage could be "modified" under the HAMP program. I was asked for 595.00 to "prepare the documents the way my lender wants to see them" The number used was 800-508-6949 ext 1596. I mailed documents to 23600 El Toro Rd. Suite D #361, Lake Forest CA 92630. Owens claimed they never arrived and asked the documents be sent by fax instead. I did. The mailed documents have been returned unopened and marked "refused" "return to sender" A SD mortgage CANNOT BE MODIFIED and these people knew that from day one, but kept assuring me it could because "we looked it up". Like an idiot I bought into this. Needless to say my phone calls get no answer anymore. I have talked to the SD attorney general and will be filing a complaint as I have found out that asking for money FOR ANY REASON to modify a mortgage IS ILLEGAL IN MOST STATES! Be careful!!!
