I received a call this morning form someone who did not speak English well. He confirmed my computer name, my Windows license number and had me go to the Event Monitor and display Applications. There was a long list of application programs that were not running. He said they were all damaged and that my computer would stop running if they were not deleted and replaced. He then offered me a contract to clean and replace these programs. He pointed out that Microsoft is a manufacture and does not offer any support. The price to repair was $175 for 1 year to $375 for 3 years. He made many untrue statements like he could connect to my computer even though I did not have an internet connection. Someone who has no knowledge of operating systems could easily be fooled into thinking their computer has been hacked.
