Internet & Web

I was looking for a new registry repair program, and they had a 'deal' for 19.95, which is pretty good. I was sent an e-mail telling me to call an 800 number to register the product and activate it. I did that, and a tech said "your computer didn't fully load the soft ware". That seemed funny, as all the shortcut icons were on my desktop and the thing was running, while I talked to him.
Then another tech, to run a scan on my PC and suddenly he was agast at the "Malware and viruses" on my computer.
"It's the worst I've seen in ten years"... Well, I was looking too, and didn't want to tell him the files he was looking at were in my virus quarantine vault, so I just had to go empty that and it'd be ok. He proceeded to sound horrified, put me on hold while he went to check with his "supervisor" to see what they could do for me... He pointed out that I had '64' programs running, ten of which were theirs, and after hanging up I looked at task manager and there were 2 running programs! They could sell me a program that would only cost me 400.00 a year, to clean out that "malware and virus" infection, or I could throw my computer out, because it was not going to ever run well. I told him I was running a virus scan software and didn't say "Gee, let me empty the quarantine file and they will go away free of charge." But, I did tell him I'd turn down the offer of a 400.00 program for a ten year old 300.00 computer! ;-) The registry repair program seems to work, but the shoddy buisness practice of selling me something I don't need, due to my "horribly infected computer" was really WRONG.
